Bank OZK’s Winder, Ga., Branches Donate 30,000 Pounds of Thanksgiving Groceries

Employees of Bank OZK’s Winder, Ga., branches donated Thanksgiving groceries to 390 families in need in their community.

On November 21, team members from our Winder, Ga., branches gave away 30,000 pounds of Thanksgiving treats and fixings to those in need in their community. It’s a show of gratitude that has occurred for the past 11 years.

In 2008, eight team members joined forces to personally sponsor the Barrow County Cooperative Benevolence Ministries’ (BCCBM) November Mobile Food Pantry.  They each donated $100 to help those with emergency needs in their community. Since then, it has grown to include not only bank employees, but their families, too.

On the day of the Mobile Food Pantry event, employees form a distribution line and fill boxes with food. Once each box reaches the end of the line, it is put into a cart and delivered to the receiver’s vehicle.

This year, 390 families, totaling 1,216 individuals, were assisted through the food distribution.

“We chose November because of the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Brandy Johnson, VP/Regional Branch Manager. “On the day of the distribution, several Bank employees and their children volunteer filling boxes with the food that will be donated. We start at 8 a.m., but the line begins to form well before that time.”

“We are proud that Bank OZK is so supportive of the November Mobile Food Pantry,” Brandy said. “Being able to volunteer and assist with the distribution is something that our team looks forward to each year. It’s a humbling experience; we always leave the event a little more thankful than we already were.”
